MATERIALS AND SOURCING

All fabrics are cleaned and tested before being sold. Unfortunately, the reality of using thrifted, recycled material does mean the fabric content is unknown, and we are not able to provide that information for our clothing pieces. Unfortunately, at the time, this is the reality for our brand if we want to create clothes sustainably. We are always working on ourselves and trying to find new ways to grow and evolve. We hope that with growth in Oddawg, there will be a way for us to provide up-cycled fabric while knowing the origins and specifics of the material in the future.
While creating clothes, Oddawg takes advantage of the abundance of resources we already have. Our mission is to reuse and recycle the materials already used by others, instead of directly taking more from the earth. All fabrics used at Oddawg are time-consumingly sourced second-hand. Our upcycled fabrics are typically sourced from thrift stores, deadstock fabric, or generously gifted by other artists.

Each item at Oddawg is thought up, planned, tested, and made by me. I recognise that sustainability takes time and effort. Every piece of clothing that is made by me starts with a choice. A choice on how it will be made, who will make it, and where the earnings will go. This process of ethical clothing production is not easy. It takes meticulous time and hard work to source second-hand materials and to work with the limited materials that you are provided with. Nonetheless, I believe sustainable fashion can be the future norm. It’s time for clothing brands to learn, adapt, and grow to fit the changing climate of our planet.

In a world where machines and sweatshops are the standard, it is hard to be different. I deeply hope that the importance of fair labour will soon be widely recognized. Every business has a choice about what standards they will uphold. I know what standards I believe in and will keep working to change the norms of the fashion industry.
